Your choices are of course:

Early Morning Rain
I Know You Rider
Mindbender (Confusion's Prince)
The Only Time Is Now
Caution (Do Not Stop On The Tracks)
Can't Come Down

Early Morning Rain or IKYR

with a nod to Can't Come Down because it sounds so much like Moby Grape

Hey Grandma (pa)!

8:05

etc., etc., etc.

My older brothers always selected them as the TOP SF band of the early era...they put Airplane and QMS below, Janis and then the DEAD.

But what did they know? I have spent 40 yrs trying to convince them they were wrong...

But Sir Wm., in the early days of the SF scene they were not wrong. Moby Grape was the most talented band in that scene. Unfortunately, they were also the most "troubled".

Motorcycle Irene
There she sits a smokin, reefer in her mouth
Hair's blowin' northward, as she travels south
Dirty on her Harley, but her nails are clean
She's super powered deflowered over eighteen Irene

Murder In My Heart For The Judge
I'm sorry, sorry for the things I've done
I sure want to change my evil ways
And the judge looked down at me and said
For getting smart boy, gonna give you
More than a lifetime

Murder in my heart for the judge
I've got murder in my heart for the judge
Well that mean old judge wouldn't budge
I've got murder in my heart for the judge

Oh I know...Sorta--I thought they were a little too homogenous though...not experimental enough...almost too pop/successful?

Do you have the album with the "bird" on the washboard? We had the original album cover AND the poster!

Lost over the years, but my brothers were very proud to have landed them prior to the recall and airbrushed out finger!

I missed out on that one...being an east-coaster...the recall hit before the album made it here. I do still have WOW/Grape Jam. And I have, how shall I say this...acquired a digital copy of the infamous "finger" album.

Funny, Bill--your post got me to go to Wiki to read up on them and found out about Spence's details (never knew it was that BAD!) and they have a pic of the real cover there!

EMR, by far.

Honor Mention to IKYR, and as noted by JOTS & BD, I too often think of Stealin as representing their classic attempt at an early era "hit" sound. GRTUD achieves that, two yrs later, IMHO.

Recently, a whole collection of previous unseen and extremely rare Acid Test posters and handbills has been discovered, including a couple pieces of original artwork by Jerry Garcia. Included in this collection was an original hand-colored handbill for the Palo Alto Big Beat Acid Test, as well as a Poster for Mother McCree's at the Tangent in 1964, a Poster for the Warlocks first paid gig at Magoo's on May 5, 1965, a poster for the Warlocks fourth performance at Frenchy's on June 18, 1965, Phil Lesh's first gig. A set of tickets for the In Room in Belmont on Sept. 1, 1965 and a poster for the first Acid Test at the Spread in Santa Cruz on Nov. 27, 1965 as well as a Fillmore Acid Test handbill and a handbill for Carthay studios in Los Angeles on March 19, 1966. It also appears that Jerry Garcia designed several of these items himself.
The site that features all of this and more is here: http://www.postertrip.com/public/department37.cfm
There are 33 pages altogether, which can be accessed from the main page.

The whole collection can be viewed here : http://www.postertrip.com/public/5591.cfm

Further details like the Jerry Garcia original artwork can be viewed here:

My favorite among those is Can't Come Down, but you have to love Phil covering Gordon Lightfoot.

Pig and Jerry really did morph quite a bit from 65 thru 73; no doubt due to PP's health issues, but between them, with the wt factor as well, it seems they can vary in appear. moreso than Billy, Phil or Bob...

Gr shots!

me too. 2-25-66 is probably my favorite from that era. Unlike most ( I assume ) I don't care as much for the really long extended jams from that year because I don't care for the sound of the keyboards ( no offense to the late great pig pen ).
